Glossary of Common Terms

Academic Deadline: The last date to drop a course from your academic record and GPA (grade point average).

CS electives: Complementary Studies (CS) are elective requirements in the Engineering curriculum. CS-eligible courses can be broadly defined as studies in humanities, social sciences, arts, management, engineering economics and communication that complements technical curriculum. You may take these courses from the Faculty of Arts & Science. See Electives for more information.

Fee Deferral: An arrangement made between the student and the university to pay fees after normal deadlines dependent upon proof of a student loan or incoming scholarship. See Fees For more information.

Financial Deadline: The last date to cancel (all courses) or drop (one or more but not all courses) and get money back. See the refund schedule for financial deadlines.

HSS electives: A subset of Complimentary Studies electives, Humanities and Social Science electives are requirements in the Engineering curriculum to take courses in the humanities and social sciences. You may take these courses from the Faculty of Arts & Science. See Electives for more information.

Lecture Section: A traditional class in which lectures are given to students.

Practical/Lab Section: Hands-on session held in a lab setting.

ROSI: (Repository of Student Information), accessed through the Student Web Service, is the online system through which you sign up for courses, check your fees, order transcripts, view grades. You can access ROSI here.

Tutorial: Smaller sections held to more fully explore and discuss issues raised during a lecture section.
