Important Notice to Students

  • An ECF student account is to be used only for academic purposes by the student to whom it is issued.
Students must NEVER give their login and password to anyone else.
  • Be warned that allowing someone else to use your account, or using the account of someone else, constitutes an offence under the University of Toronto Code of Student Conduct.  The penalties for such offences vary with the circumstances of each case, but in general they are severe, and can include payment of damages, loss of all computer access, and other sanctions.
  • Please remember this and keep your password a secret.  If you ever have reason to believe that someone has discovered your password, change your password immediately and report the matter to ECF in the Engineering Annex, Room 212K.
  • Users are also expected to comply with the University's Appropriate Use of Information and Communication Technology policy, which is posted at http://www.provost.utoronto.ca/policy/use.htm.  Attempting to use ECF network resources to bypass restrictions or bandwidth limitations on residence or other networks will result in your account being suspended.  Do not disconnect power or data from any ECF equipment.
  • Never turn off the computers when you are done.  This can damage the software on the disk.
  • There is NO FOOD OR DRINK ALLOWED IN THE LABS whether you are eating or drinking is of no consequence.  If you bring food or drink into the labs then it must stay inside your pack or jacket.  Food or drink in a container is still a violation if it is visible.  THIS INCLUDES WATER.  Abusers of this rule will have their accounts locked.  Labs will be closed in the evenings and on weekends if problems persist.
  • Problems with equipment in ECF labs such as jammed printers or broken mice/keyboards/floppy drives should be reported to ECF STAFF by sending E-mail to trouble@ecf.utoronto.ca .   In the E-mail try to be as specific as possible by identifying the equipment properly.
  • Some students may find game playing to be a nice diversion during the many hours of Engineering school work.  ECF has permitted this activity to continue, provided there are enough seats in the lab for everyone to do work.  Students are only allowed to play games in the lab if (i) the lab is less than half full, and (ii) they play quietly.  Disruptive behaviour of any kind such as loud talking, shouting,  playing of music is not permitted.  All multi-player games are banned in the ECF labs.  All game playing diversions must be student vs machine.
