Complementary Studies Electives

Complementary Studies (CS) can be broadly defined as studies in humanities, social sciences, arts, management, engineering economics and communication that complements technical curriculum.

Engineering, math or science courses—including astronomy and psychology—may not be used to fulfill your CS elective requirement. For detailed information regarding Complementary Studies and the Complementary Studies Certificate, please consult Chapter 7 of the 2008-2009 Academic Calendar.

Some areas of study that are considered complementary to Engineering studies include:

  • An introduction to the methodologies and thought process of the humanities and social sciences.
  • A basic knowledge of engineering economics.
  • Awareness of the impact of technology on society.

The Faculty of Applied Science and Engineering also offers several courses that may be used as CS electives:

  • APS280—Engineering Writing
  • APS234—Entrepreneurship and Small Business
  • APS432—Entrepreneurship and Business Management
  • APS501—Leadership and Leading for Groups and Organizations (or Leadership Development)
  • CHE/CIV/ECE/MIE/MSE488—Entrepreneurship and Business for Engineers.

Courses offered by the Faculty of Applied Science and Engineering follow the rules, regulations and enrolment dates of the Faculty.
